SCRAP

SCRAP

When the call went out at Patient News to help establish an environmental initiative within the company, over a third of the staff responded and established an employee-driven Strategic Consumable Recycle and Assessment Program (SCRAP).

The purpose of this team is to implement products and processes that treat the environment with respect in all that we do. Since summer 2006, we have continued to encourage and support the growth of this movement which involves going beyond a comprehensive recycling program to choosing environmentally friendly cleaning supplies, reducing packaging waste in our supply purchases and starting a carpooling program. Some staff even commute to work by walking, cycling and even kayaking! Employees are also encouraged to submit their ideas for day-to-day methods of caring for our environment, such as reducing paper use. The SCRAP team has set a new list of goals for their next year, including reducing energy consumption and choosing more environmentally friendly sources of energy and even more PNP staffers have signed on to help make these goals happen.

This dedication to the environment has grown to extend beyond the doors of our plant. Catching Green Haliburton is another employee-driven initiative that is intended to help other companies in our business community to become more environmentally sustainable. Free step-by-step templates on how to implement environmentally responsible practices are now available on the Catching Green website at catchinggreen.com.
